August 11,1973 1520 Sedgwick Ave. Rec Room is known as the birthplace of Hip-Hop. It was said that DJ Kool Herc hosted some of Hip-hops greatest parties in the 70's. All the B-boys and B-girls came out to hear the scratching of the best records of the early 70's. The summer time was a time for block parties and other eventful hangout's with great friends and great music. Cindy, Kool Herc's sister, wanted to through a back to school party which then began the mark of Hip-Hop. Since then Hip-Hop has evolved from
being just a back to school party on the west side of the bronx, to shinning through on all 5 boroughs as well as going internationally. The parties were an innovative way of gathering peers and collevtivley listening to stream of music and creating other forms of breaking, MCing, and scratching. Hope you enjoy your next block party as much as Kool Herc's peers did.
